Our Gathering Place Canadian Herbs & Spices

In a previous blog post, we shared a little about the Bay and Rosemary once grown on our Cortes Island homestead. Today, we want to celebrate the roots of our Canadian-grown herb collection and the incredible farming relationships that helped shape it over the years.

Our Canadian Culinary Herb Collection began from a deep desire to source as close to home as possible while supporting Canadian farmers and offering exceptionally fresh, vibrant herbs to our customers.

For many years, herbs grown on our Cortes Island homestead were part of this journey alongside beautiful Canadian-grown ingredients sourced from trusted farming partners across the country. From a solar-powered certified organic family farm in Alberta, we continue to source herbs such as Parsley, Sage, Basil, Marjoram, and Dill whenever possible. These herbs are thoughtfully blended in-house to create some of our most loved seasonings, including our Poultry Spice and Italian Spice blends.

In Saskatchewan, an inter-generational family farm supplies us with Brown and Yellow Mustard Seed, which we use to produce our Yellow Mustard Powder and Brown Mustard Powder.

Supporting Canadian farmers and sourcing products from within our own country has always remained one of the foundational values behind Gathering Place. Whenever possible, we continue to prioritize Canadian-grown ingredients and thoughtfully sourced relationships rooted in quality, integrity, and sustainability.

At the same time, climate variability, seasonal limitations, and increasing demand can impact the availability of certain organically grown herbs within Canada. While many of our herbs continue to be sourced domestically whenever possible, we also work with long-standing trusted farming partners in regions such as Greece and Spain to help ensure consistent quality and supply for herbs such as Rosemary, Bay Leaves, Oregano and Thyme.

One of the greatest joys has been hearing from customers who tell us our herbs taste as though they were picked and dried just yesterday. We regularly hear comments about their vibrant colour, aroma, freshness, and flavour, and it means the world to us knowing these products are being shared around family tables across the country.

Sourcing the highest quality food with the lowest possible environmental impact continues to be an important goal for us. We feel deeply grateful for the farmers, relationships, and customers who have supported this journey and helped shape Gathering Place into what it is today.
