Herbs Proudly Grown in Canada!

Introducing The Gathering Place All-Canadian Herbs & Spices

In our last blog post, we told you all about the Bay and Rosemary we grow on our Cortes Island homestead. This month, we want to fill you in on our other culinary herbs, ALL of them 100% Canadian!

In fact, we have a name for this amazing line-up…it’s our All-Canadian Culinary Herb Collection!

An Organic Herbs & Seeds Collection

First up, from a solar-powered, certified organic farm in Alberta, we source our Oregano, Parsley, Sage, Thyme, Basil, Marjoram, and Dill. These herbs are hand-blended in-house to create our popular and delicious Poultry Spice. And with the addition of our Cortes-grown Rosemary, we make our zesty Italian Spice!

Next, one province over in Saskatchewan, an inter-generational family farm supplies us with our Brown Mustard Seed and Yellow Mustard Seed. We then use these products to produce our Yellow Mustard Powder and Brown Mustard Powder.

Buy Local, Eat Local

Supporting Canadian farmers and sourcing products from right here in our own country is one of the key pillars of our business. If a product is grown here, we source it here. We don’t look to other countries for better prices. That is our commitment.

But it doesn’t come without its challenges. There aren’t many commercial organic herb farms in Canada, so we simply can’t get the quantities that we need. You won’t be able to buy any of these herbs in bulk, but we are constantly working to grow and source more herbs because our customers love our current offerings SO much!

We receive such beautiful emails, with customers telling us that our herbs taste like they were picked and dried just yesterday! They also comment on the vibrant colour and they tell us that we’ve spoiled them and they won’t ever be able to buy the old-looking, brown, grocery store spices ever again!

Sourcing the highest quality food with the lowest carbon footprint is our optimum goal. Our Canadian-grown herb line checks both of these boxes in a big way. We feel so proud of this step in our path. Offering these herbs into the market feels like a real gift for each customer who gets to experience the freshness, vibrancy, and texture of truly top quality products.
