At Gathering Place Trading, we take pride in sourcing the freshest, most aromatic bay leaves. While the majority of our bay continues to be grown on the island we call home, increasing demand, a limited growing season, and the impacts of climate change have led us to supplement our supply. To ensure we can continue offering the highest quality organic bay leaves year-round, we now also source from small-scale family farms in Greece’s Thessaloniki region and a cooperative in Spain’s Alicante and Murcia provinces.


These carefully selected farms cultivate premium, naturally dried bay leaves that are rich in essential oils, delivering deep, earthy flavor to soups, stews, broths, and slow-cooked dishes. Whether sourced from our home island or our trusted Mediterranean partners, each leaf meets our exacting standards for quality, sustainability, and ethical sourcing.
Hand-harvested and air-dried for maximum potency, our bay leaves remain a pantry essential for home cooks and chefs alike.

About Our Cortes Island Farm

All of the bay and rosemary in our line of Canadian culinary herbs comes from our home property or other small homesteads on Cortes. We love that we can offer you products grown right on our own land, in pure rich soil, surrounded by large cedars and firs, caressed by the salty brine air, and watered by west coast rains and pure well water.

Each leaf of bay and rosemary that you find in your Gathering Place Trading package has been gently plucked by someone in our family and then later, carefully washed, graded, and dehydrated by one of our teammates. This tender “hands-on” process explains the bright colour and freshness of our herbs, which so many of our customers comment on and are delighted by!
