Our Organic Vanilla Beans are prized for their rich aroma and deep, complex flavour, sourced from the Vanilla planifolia orchid. It’s the only orchid in the world that produces an edible fruit. Grown by a farmer’s cooperative in India that places care for the Earth at the centre of its practices, these beans are hand-harvested, carefully cured in small batches, and shipped fresh to preserve their full character.

Vanilla is one of the most labour-intensive spices in the world. Each flower must be pollinated by hand, only one bean grows per blossom, and the flowers bloom for just a single day. This careful process results in vanilla beans that are supple, fragrant, and rich in flavour.

Ideal for baking, cooking, and infusions, these organic vanilla beans bring warmth and depth to both sweet and savoury recipes. You may notice small white crystals on or inside the bean. This is naturally occurring vanillin, a sign of quality and a contributor to vanilla’s signature aroma.

Each batch is carefully hand-packed on Vancouver Island, BC, preserving the integrity and richness of these exceptional vanilla beans.

About Our Southern India Partners

We support 1400 farmers under a cooperative umbrella covering close to 10,000 acres of certified organic land in Karnataka State. Our true cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, cayenne, smoked chili flakes, vanilla beans, and stevia come from these certified organic farms, some of which are FairTrade certified.

These Indian farmers plant food forests, also called inter-cropping, where multiple crops grow harmoniously and life thrives, rather than mono-cropping, which negatively impacts the soil and the ecosystem. This system ensures the farmer gets more income from the same piece of land. The farmers are supported every step of the way by the cooperative, learning about seed procurement, building soil, harvesting, storage, and food safety practices.

Our community sourcing partners have certified organic state-of-the-art processing facilities, international food safety certification, allergen-free declarations, and kosher certification. This results in the highest quality products delivered fresh to Gathering Place several times a year.
