Welcome to Gathering Place Trading,

Where We Direct Source the Best Organic Cut & Sifted Ginger

About Our Indian Farming Cooperative

We support 1400 farmers under a cooperative umbrella covering close to 10,000 acres of certified organic land in Karnataka State. Our true cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, cayenne, smoked chili flakes, vanilla beans, and stevia come from these certified organic farms, some of which are FairTrade certified.

These Indian farmers plant food forests, also called inter-cropping, where multiple crops grow harmoniously and life thrives, rather than mono-cropping, which negatively impacts the soil and the ecosystem. This system ensures the farmer gets more income from the same piece of land. The farmers are supported every step of the way by the cooperative, learning about seed procurement, building soil, harvesting, storage, and food safety practices.

Our community sourcing partners have certified organic state-of-the-art processing facilities, international food safety certification, allergen-free declarations, and kosher certification. This results in the highest quality products delivered fresh to Gathering Place several times a year.

India Reviving Their Tradition of Sustainable Farming

Our first trip to India was 12 years ago and our hearts were immediately engaged by the people, the spirituality, the culture, and the food. We were fortunate to discover a wonderful organic cooperative in Karnataka State. Upon visiting the farms,we quickly knew these were people and a project we wanted to support. Not only are the products incredibly high quality, but they are always fresh, meaning our customers are always receiving the current year’s harvest.

Since first partnering with this cooperative, we have learned much more about the history of agriculture in the region. Prior to the advent of modern agriculture and its insistence on massive pesticide use, India was known for its sustainable, small-scale, subsistence farms; they were the mainstay of every Indian community. For a period of time, Monsanto tried to insert itself but the crops failed and the people rebelled. Now the organic food movement is once again spreading a healing balm across the country, bettering farmers’ lives and increasing household incomes.

Love the Rooibos tea and the salt, but the cut-and-sifted ginger was not quite what I expected.

I love that the Rooibos is offered in teabags in bulk size, and that the salt is offered in bulk size as well. These 2 products are great, I am primarily a Rooibos tea drinker (I do not drink black or green tea, or coffee) and this tea is wonderful. The salt, I was looking for a product that has been tested for heavy metals, etc, and this salt came through very well and I trust that it is safe to eat. I will say that I was disappointed in the cut-and-sifted ginger as it is very woody (the skin is included, which I did not expect) . I intended to cook with it and have an occasional tea, but it is definitely not suitable for cooking as it seems to be as much skin as pulp. It was suggested that I grind it into powder, but I don't think even my Ninja would be able to grind this woody product into powder. Now I have a kilo-sized bag that there's no way I'll be able to go through in a year just having the occasional cup of tea. Lesson learned, try a small bag before buying the kilo-size.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed feedback! We’re delighted to hear that you’re enjoying the Rooibos tea and our sea salt— both are favourites in our own homes as well, and it’s wonderful to know they’ve met your expectations.

We’re truly sorry to hear that the cut-and-sifted ginger didn’t quite meet your needs. Due to its natural form, cut-and-sifted ginger can have a woodier texture than ground varieties. This is typical of ginger in its less processed state, and while some customers appreciate its rustic quality, we understand it may not be ideal for every use.

We tried to locate your order in our system so we could follow up directly but were unable to find your contact information. Please know your satisfaction is incredibly important to us, and we’d love the opportunity to make things right.

Our team would be happy to offer you a solution—whether that’s a replacement, a credit, or another option that better suits your needs. We want every customer to feel confident and satisfied with their Gathering Place experience, and your trust means everything to us.

Please feel free to reach out to us directly at sales@gatheringplacetrading.com with your order details so we can assist you personally.

With appreciation,

Ginger Tea Magic

Hands down, this is the best kind of dried ginger for tea! Used on its own or mixed with other herbs and spices, it's excellent prepared in any way. If you enjoy ginger tea, I highly recommend keeping a bag of this stocked in your cupboard or pantry.

Thank you so much for your amazing review of our Ginger Cut and Sifted, Indra! So happy to hear that you enjoy it in your tea! Having dried Ginger on hand is so useful in the winter season. If you love Lemon and Orange, we have dried pieces of those as well (the Lemon is my personal favourite!).
