At Gathering Place Trading, we have always prioritized sourcing the highest-quality, ethically grown herbs. While our rosemary was once cultivated on our farm on Cortes Island, climate change and increasing demand have made it challenging to continue growing it in Canada. It remains our preference to source locally whenever possible, but to ensure we can continue offering the finest organic rosemary, we now work with small-scale family farms in Greece’s Thessaloniki region and a cooperative in Spain’s Alicante and Murcia provinces.

These Mediterranean regions provide the ideal climate for rosemary to flourish, producing a fragrant, flavorful herb that is certified organic, naturally-dried, and bursting with essential oils. Perfect for seasoning roasted vegetables, grilled meats, and homemade breads, our rosemary is a versatile staple in any kitchen.

About Our Cortes Island Farm

All of the bay and rosemary in our line of Canadian culinary herbs comes from our home property or other small homesteads on Cortes. We love that we can offer you products grown right on our own land, in pure rich soil, surrounded by large cedars and firs, caressed by the salty brine air, and watered by west coast rains and pure well water.

Each leaf of bay and rosemary that you find in your Gathering Place Trading package has been gently plucked by someone in our family and then later, carefully washed, graded, and dehydrated by one of our teammates. This tender “hands-on” process explains the bright colour and freshness of our herbs, which so many of our customers comment on and are delighted by!
