Our Sea Salt originates in the Antarctic Ocean, which is why we named it Antarctic Pure. The swift Benguela Current brings this ice-cold water up the wild west coast of South Africa. This pure ocean water travels through a natural filtration system of layers of ancient seashell beds and sand into an extremely rare geological phenomenon –a saltwater aquifer.

Gathering Place Antarctic Pure Sea Salt contains 82 trace minerals, including 1800 ppm of magnesium and 2400 ppm of calcium! Much higher amounts than most sea salt!

It has also been tested for microplastic contamination and contains absolutely zero microplastics. It is also heavy metal-free, with an incredibly low lead reading of less than 30ppb (parts/billion), ranking it in the top five safest sea salts in the world. 

Sun and wind dried with no machine processing, our sea salt is hand-harvested and then sieved – never machine cut or ground. It is a delicious, healthy seasoning that our family brings to every community potluck and on every picnic, hike, or boat trip. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Gathering Place Antarctic Pure Sea Salt is naturally harvested by a Fair for Life FairTrade™ Certified and HACCP certified family business, which betters the lives of their workers through education, child care, and health care. While most of the world’s salt is mined from non-renewable sources, our sea salt originates from the Benguela current in the Antarctic Ocean, on the West Coast of South Africa. The water flows through layers of shells into a deep aquifer. This natural process purifies the water and increases the abundance of minerals, while removing micro-plastics and other contaminants. This pristine brine is sun and wind-dried and the crystals are hand-harvested by our South African fair trade partners, never machine cut or ground. Our sea salt is unrefined and free from additives or preservatives.
