Standing on His Feet: Why We Support Help Lesotho

Standing on His Feet: Why We Support Help Lesotho

When we read Reitumetse’s story, we felt it deeply.

Reitumetse is 13 years old and lives with his aunt and uncle after moving from the remote highlands of Lesotho so he could attend school. It meant leaving his younger brother behind with their grandmother, a sacrifice made quietly and with determination.

Three years ago, Reitumetse joined Help Lesotho’s Guys4Good program without knowing exactly what it was. He only knew it was a chance to learn. That choice changed everything.

Through monthly workshops designed to build confidence, leadership, and self-esteem, Reitumetse began to see himself differently. His aunt noticed it right away. He became more responsible at home, more engaged with others, and more confident in who he was becoming.

Then came the exam results.

Reitumetse placed in the top ten students in the entire country.

When he talks about the program, his words say it best. “It brought a very big change. My confidence has increased. Now I can stand up on my feet.” At Help Lesotho, he says, he feels free to express how he feels. He knows he belongs.

Reitumetse dreams of becoming a doctor, or maybe even a horror movie actor. He loves soccer, jokes easily, and proudly calls himself a hard worker. Most importantly, he sees himself as a role model.

This is why we support Help Lesotho.

They are a Canadian-based charity doing exceptional, on-the-ground work that supports education, mentorship, and leadership for children and youth in Lesotho. Their programs create lasting change, not just in academic outcomes, but in confidence, self-worth, and community leadership.

Watch here for a glimpse into a day in the life at Help Lesotho and the programs that are helping young people like Reitumetse find their confidence and voice.

Reitumetse’s story is proof of what’s possible when young people are given the support they deserve.
