We take pride in sourcing our bay leaves to ensure a rich aroma and consistent quality year-round. While much of our bay leaves continue to be grown on the island we call home, increasing demand and a limited growing season mean we also partner with small-scale family farms in Greece’s Thessaloniki region and a cooperative in Spain’s Alicante and Murcia provinces to supplement our supply.

These carefully selected farms cultivate premium bay leaves that are naturally dried and rich in essential oils, delivering deep, earthy flavour to soups, stews, broths, sauces, and slow-cooked dishes.

Whether sourced from our home island of Cortes or from our trusted Mediterranean partners, each bay leaf is hand harvested and carefully air dried to preserve its natural potency and fragrance. Only the best is selected to meet our standards for quality, sustainability, and ethical sourcing.

Our bay leaves are a classic culinary herb that brings gentle warmth and depth to soups, stews, and everyday cooking. A trusted pantry staple for home cooks and chefs alike.

About Our Cortes Island Farm

All of the bay and rosemary in our line of Canadian culinary herbs comes from our home property or other small homesteads on Cortes. We love that we can offer you products grown right on our own land, in pure rich soil, surrounded by large cedars and firs, caressed by the salty brine air, and watered by west coast rains and pure well water.

Each leaf of bay and rosemary that you find in your Gathering Place Trading package has been gently plucked by someone in our family and then later, carefully washed, graded, and dehydrated by one of our teammates. This tender “hands-on” process explains the bright colour and freshness of our herbs, which so many of our customers comment on and are delighted by!
